Last week, I got a chance to talk with Paige and Steven from the LA-based band The Peach Kings. Right now, they’re in the middle of their American “Night Sweat Tour” alongside Austin-based artist Mobley. The Peach Kings’ sultry mix of dark indie rock has been featured in TV shows, commercials and more. Earlier this year, they opened up for Cyndi Lauper on her US tour, and are gearing up to release some new music within the coming months! You can see them LIVE on this tour in Cleveland, OH at the Beachland Ballroom next Tuesday, 7/26/16! Tickets are $8 ADV / $10 DOS, Doors open at 7:30 and the show starts at 8:30! Get your tickets here!!
So where are you currently at right now?
We’re currently in Wyoming right now, on a long drive on our way to Salt Lake City.
Is this the same type of drive you took when you had that horrifying stay at that creepy motel? (Full backstory here)
Unfortunately, yes. But we’ve definitely learned our lesson to not trust the cheapest hotel. But beyond that, this tour’s been going great! It’s starting to get to the point where everything’s starting to blur together. We’re starting to test out some new songs and see how the fans react to them. Our drummer on our tour is really great, and so is Mobley, so it really is a blast!
This upcoming show in Cleveland will be your second time in the city this year, after opening up for Cyndi Lauper on tour. How was that experience?
It was incredible! We played at the Hard Rock Rocksino the last time we were here on tour with Cyndi. She was amazing, so nice, and even brought us back out onstage during her set! It was all an experience we won’t forget.
Being the Peach Kings, you definitely have a lot of authority in terms of peach-related things. That being said, how would you rank the following peach items:
“Peaches” (the song by The Presidents of the United States of America)
Peaches (the Canadian Female Electronic Artist
The Peach Emoji🍑
An actual, large, ripe, juicy peach
Hmm.. I think we’re going to have to go with:
- The real peach
- “Peaches” (the PUSA song)
- Peaches (the artist)
- 🍑 (We Really don’t like it!)
You said that you’re starting to test out some new music on the road this tour. Any news on when we’ll get a follow-up to the Mojo Kings EP? (You can download the Mojo Kings EP for free on Noisetrade!)
We’re looking to put out a single with one of the new songs sometime in September. In the meantime, you can hear all the new songs for yourself when we come to Cleveland next week!
If you had the chance to collaborate with any artist (either living or dead), who would it be and why?
Steven: In terms of living people, it would probably be Josh Homme [of Queens of the Stone Age / Eagles of Death Metal / etc]. He’s been doing so much with music lately that it would be really interesting to see how he works. In terms of dead artists, I would love to work with Bowie, Prince, and all the great artists that we lost already this year.
Paige: I’d love to work with any of those people, and also would’ve loved to do something with Lou Reed!
If you were to give someone one reason to come see the show at the Beachland Ballroom on 7/26, what would it be?
It’s the only place where you can hear our new music! It’s going to be a great night of good music and good fun! After the show, don’t be shy and say hi to us. We don’t hide away from people after the show and love talking with fans!
Thanks so much to the Peach Kings for the interview! I’ll be at the show in Cleveland next week, so stay tuned for some pictures and review coming soon!
